Version history and recovery
1. View Version History
Users find the version history option in the top-left menu. Generally speaking, there are 2 kinds of historical versions. One is the autosaved version, the other is the manually saved version. Users can filter historical versions based on their needs.
2. Autosaved Historical Version
Pixso saves changes to the cloud while you work online. Automatically created historical versions are snapshots in the history list; they are separate from ongoing file synchronization.
3. Manually Saved Historical Version
The manually saved historical version will show user details. You can save and add notes to a manually saved version via this feature. Notes you add can be seen by file collaborators.
Besides saving a historical version by clicking the + sign in the top corner of the list, you can also perform this operation via the menu or shortcut keys.
macOS: ⌘+ Option + S
Win: Ctrl + Alt + S
A named historical version marks a point in the file’s history. Check the history available in the file before relying on an older snapshot.
After entering version history mode, the hand tool will be taken by default. If you need to select a certain layer for more details or notes, please switch to the move tool in the bottom of the page or by pressing the shortcut key V. When you switch to the move tool, the right side panel will be changed into Handoff and Slice for you to view more details. To return to the version history list, click the Return button in the top right.
Tip: Features mentioned above are suitable for handing over your design file to developers.
4. Share Historical Version
If you want to share a certain historical version, you can click the 3 dots icon beside the version you want, and choose the Share option. After that, Pixso will generate a sharing link and copy it to your clipboard automatically.
If the link invitation permission is disabled in the current file, Pixso will guide you to enable the function and then copy the sharing link.
5. Copy Historical Version
Pixso supports copying a certain historical version individually. The copied version will be saved in your draft by default. Please note that the file viewer can not use this feature.
6. Restore Historical Version
During the design process, you can retrieve previous operations by restoring a certain historical version. You can also get the previous or lost design files in this way.
After opening the version history list, locate the version you want and click the Restore button. Wait for several minutes and you'll get back the corresponding version.
Note: If the design file is too large, you may need to wait for a longer time.
Recover the content you need
- Recover a few layers: open the relevant historical version and copy the required content when your permissions allow it.
- Keep both versions: duplicate the historical version so that the current file remains available.
- Restore the whole file: preserve current work and coordinate with active collaborators before restoring an earlier version.
If changes have not synchronized
Keep the original tab open, restore the network connection and check the save status. Do not clear browser data or sign out while unsynced work remains visible. Version history cannot recover changes that never reached the server. If a needed version is missing, provide the file link and approximate editing time to Pixso support.
Review editors and add version notes
- Open Version history from the menu at the top left of the file.
- Select a version and review its editing time and editor records in the right-hand panel.
- If the editor list is collapsed, expand it to see the other contributors.
- To record a milestone, use + above the version list to save a version manually and add a short note. You can use @ in the note to mention a relevant collaborator.
Version notes are visible to the file's collaborators. Describe what changed and what needs review so that readers can identify the version they need.
